An extremely rare antique early Victorian English mourning ring. Made of solid 9 carat gold (tests at least 9 carat), its engraved twist-style band is inlaid with a woven hair memento, and the wire twist head is set with a tiny child's milk tooth. It's extremely unusual for a tooth to be included in a mourning ring, this will have been made for a wealthy member of the gentry or similar to commemorate the death of their child. It dates from around 1840/50 and is in good condition, with light wear/tarnish to the gold and some loss to the hair here & there.
It weighs 2.2 grams and measures 11 mm across the head. The tooth is 5 mm long and its ring size is 6 ¼ US / M UK - not resizeable. The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coin for scale, which measures 19 mm / ¾ of an inch diameter. What's more, I offer layaway deals so there's no need to let any of my listings slip through your fingers - just ask!
