ANTIQUE GEORGIAN GOLD PLATED & GLAZED MOURNING LOCKET. Antique Georgian Gold Plated and Glazed Mourning Locket. This collectable antique glazed mourning locket dates from around 1830 - 1840 and is gold plated. The front cover has an engine turned pattern with a central blank cartouche (where initials could be engraved, if desired). The back cover has engine turned decoration and the outer rim has ornate carving detail. Inside, a glazed cover protects a tied lock of hair. This locket would have been worn around the neck or on a guard chain / watch chain via the secure bale. Please note that the photos have been enlarged to show detail, actual measurements are given below. The locket measures approximately 2.4cms diameter. As is often the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the locket has been professionally tested and has been found to be gold plated.
