Interesting gunmetal gray / black locket with no decorations or embellishments - smooth, simple and elegant. This is an antique mourning jewelry piece from the early 1900s to Art Deco era that I acquired in France. Both sides of the locket are decorated in this manner. It looks like it is made from oxidized silver plate with a matte finish. There are two gold colored frames holding that you pull to insert your photo, lock of hair or pressed flower behind.
The piece measures 1 1/4 inch in diameter. No hallmarks, unsure of the exact fabrication but appears to oxidized silver plate. Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned with some age to them so they are in estate condition. The hinge is weak with the top of it having split. It still holds together, but sometimes when you close it, you have to make sure to line up the two sides so it closes correctly.I tried to show this in photos. It would need gentle wear as I would imagine with frequent opening and closing, the bottom of the hinge my detach as well. Still Presents beautifully when closed and worn - overall the dark color is very striking and uniform. A few spots on the back cover that are still dark but just a different tone when studied in a reflection, you can see it in photos.
No dings or dents, The cover does open nicely and remains securely shut once you get the two sides lined up but careful of the old hinge. Please note this piece is not in mint condition.
