This is a beautiful gold color mourning brooch that was worn by a great aunt of my daughter-in-law, who lived from the mid-1800's to the early 1900's. The brooch contains human hair and several tiny, pearl-like pieces. They were made of gold, sometimes only 9-carat gold, and before 1840 pinchbeck was used - a metal looking like gold but less expensive. There is no mark to indicate what was used in this brooch. The brooch has been in a blue velvet case for decades (the case is not antique) and is in very good condition. The gold color is rich and very little signs of discoloration or pitting.

The brooch measures 2" x 2-1/4". There is a small loop for using a light chain to wear the brooch as a necklace. This item is in the category "Jewelry & Watches\Vintage & Antique Jewelry\Mourning Jewelry". The seller is "trish14" and is located in this country: US.
