French Antique Signet Hair RING VICTORIAN 18k GOLD Black ENAMEL Mourning Wide MW

Beautiful French antique Victorian signet ring with 18k gold ring face decorated with a black enamel outline and engraved with AA (which also looks like a W or M if you flip it). The shank is made of brown braided hair as an additional sentimental gesture.

The back of the ring face is stamped with the French eagle head hallmark for 18k gold, it has the most beautiful buttery patina with rosy highlights. It could also be possible to have the ring reshanked with the hair removed and a gold band added by your local jeweler. Ring is currently about a size 10 as the hair has stretched some from age. The ring face is 16mm by 7.5mm and the hair shank is 4.5mm wide.

It is lightweight with the flexible shank and hollow ring face that the hair runs through, weighing. Please note that all my pieces are in estate condition, especially considering age of over 100 years. The hair has stretched some from age but does not have any bad tears or drastic fraying.

There is loss to the enamel rectangle and some shallowest ripples to the ring face. The letters are still legible but also subtle. Beautiful piece with lovely patina and an awesome antique look.
