A beautiful and poignant Georgian treasure. This gorgeous wide, solid 9 carat gold band ring has a scalloped and textured outer with some superbly fine detail that gets better the closer you get. Its rounded head is set with a halo of lustrous seed pearls around a rounded locket compartment that contains a woven two-colour hair memento. But it gets really interesting inside the band. T 1797 Ag 2 Yrs 7 mon.

This extremely sad dedication will have been commissioned by a wealthy person of high status, as pieces like this were out of the reach of the common man. It's well worn with the band whole but with two old splits - one a very old repair and one where the dedication was engraved too deep, so that one's been on the cards for 225 years. The head, though extremely old, appears to be an addition at some point in its life.

It's still wearable though if desired and is a thoroughly intriguing and lovely piece fit for any great collection. It's a size 8 and cannot be resized.
