This rare antique Georgian mourning brooch / pin in 9K yellow gold dates to the 1830s. It contains a rectangular glazed compartment with bevelled edges containing tightly woven brown and blonde human hair (likely from two different people).

The inner border contains sixteen (16) 2.2mm diameter natural pearls, silver/white in color and well matched. There is no inscription on the reverse so no way of knowing who this "memento mori" (mourning) remembered i.
Who this hair belonged to. It has C-catch, tube hinge, and extended piston, as well as a pendant fitting so can be worn on a chain as well. The dimensions are 21.6mm (L) x 16.2mm (W) and it weighs 3.1 grams. The brooch / pin is in excellent antique condition.
There is no hallmark but the 9K gold content has been confirmed through acid testing. This is an authentic original Victorian brooch / pin, dating to c1830. Please see photos for more details.
