Victorian Sweetheart Brooch Antique 14K Garnet Braided Hair 1 1/2 long
Victorian Sweetheart Brooch Antique 14K Garnet Braided Hair 1 1/2 long. "Momento Mori", or, "Remember You Must Die", is best known as the Mourning Brooch. Queen Victoria often ignited fashion & jewelry trends such as her double headed snake & emerald wedding ring. Sadly, after Prince Albert passed in 1861, she popularized the Mourning Brooch. However, this brooch was most likely a Sweet Heart Momento. This stunning brooch features a beautiful daisy in yellow gold with a bright, pinkish tone garnet cabochon.
The corners have a filigree body and each direction has hand engraved designs. The back features braided hair protected by glass. The pin sticks out which was common in the first (3) quarters of the 1800s. The brooch has been tested as solid yellow 14k gold or higher with an x-ray. Not marked that I can see common in old Victorian pieces.
Brooch measures 1 1/2 long by 1 1/3" tall 3/8" widest. This item is in the category "Jewelry & Watches\Vintage & Antique Jewelry\Mourning Jewelry". The seller is "june2six" and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped worldwide.
